Heels and Shorts

I opened my eyes, saw the sunshine streaming in through my curtains and felt the warm breeze that was blowing my curtains in. I knew in an instant that it was the day I was finally going to put a pair of shorts on! You see, I really feel the cold, and even though I live in sunny Queensland, I hadn't put a pair of shorts on through all of winter.

Yes I wore skirts and dresses with coats and jackets, however I still hadn't worn a pair of shorts. Go figure. So on Saturday morning, while I chose my outfit to wear to lunch at a restaurant in Manly, I chose a pair of black tailored shorts that I bought a couple of years ago.

These black shorts are a classic style that I folded up once at the hem to expose a little more leg. I paired them with this loose, flowy top for a more casual daytime look. Well, at least casual was the look I was initially going for. I slipped on a pair of flat sandals, but before I walked out the door, I changed my shoes to my favourite white strappy heels. I suppose this choice of footwear dressed the outfit up more than I had initially intended to, but I was in a fun mood and couldn't resist these playful heels.

I accessorised this black and white monochrome outfit with gold trinkets on my neck, wrists and fingers. These gold details matched the gold hardware on my bag and tied the bag into the outfit.

So after lunch, we took some photos to record my first post winter outfit that includes shorts. As you can see, the warm breeze became a gusty wind! This may not have been good for my hairstyle, but it was obviously great for all the pretty sailing boats out in the bay that day.

In With The Old & In With The New

Thrift shops and online second-hand stores are like gold mines for fabulous vintage clothing and accessories. Sometimes it may not be obvious at first glance, but dig a little deeper and you'll be surprised at what you find.

Sometimes it can take a little while before you discover an amazing vintage piece that'll blend with your style, but the reward of this treasure sure is worth it.

Pairing vintage with new not only gives us the opportunity to create interesting outfits, but we can do it at a fraction of the price of an entirely new outfit.

I found my Valentino Roma sheer top on ebay for only $10. I paired it with a new pair of jeans and borrowed the shoes and black tube top from my sister's wardrobe.

It's Black & White

Black-and-white is one of my all-time favourite trends because it's so easy for anyone to wear and even easier to accessorise. So I was pretty happy to hear that this monochrome look is back for 2013.

Black and white is both classic and modern. The versatility and simplicity of this color-combo means it can be adapted to anyone's style and body shape. We can also use these two colors to shape our bodies - wearing black on the bottom half will give the illusion that it's smaller and wearing white on the top half will make it look a little bigger. This balances out feminine shapes and gives a more proportioned and elongated look.

I've chosen a classic white blazer and edgy faux leather leggings for my B&W outfit. My shoes are white with a yellow perspex heel - this and the rose gold rings add little pops of color.

White Fashion

White dresses, white jackets, white fashion in general have been my latest obsession. The bonus is that white's everywhere now - in the southern fall and the northern spring collectinos.

White is so easy to accessorise, and it's so easy to make this look your own. And hey, if you're ever stuck for ideas, a no fail option for shoes and bags is black.

Accessorising white is easy, choose any color and BOOM you're done! I've kept my look clean by accessorising with a white clutch, white shoes and gold rings.

By the way, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress!
